    RESTORING HISTORY

On August 28, 2011 (Hurricane Irene), Westfield Truck 1 was involved in an accident involving a large oak tree. The insurance underwriters determined that the aerial ladder was not worth fixing due to the age and amount of damage. At this time, the ladder truck was sold ...to Absolute Fire Protection in South Plainfield and was used for spare parts. Over the past 11 years, the old Westfield Truck 1 was stripped down of all salvageable parts and has been inactive in the far corner of the maintenance lot (seen in picture below).

Over a decade has passed since the transaction, and it was brought to attention that a piece of history was left behind. A phone call was made and before you knew it, the ladder signs were returned home and will be displayed in both firehouses for the foreseeable future.

A special thank you to Sal at Absolute Fire Protection Co. Inc. and for WFD tour 3 for mounting the signs.

Pictures in order: Truck 1 at Absolute Fire Protection, Truck 1 in service (1995), new location of one of the ladder signs at Fire Headquarters.

The up front work makes the outcome a masterpiece! Plan ahead and it pays forward 1000%! We love seeing the concept become reality!
